MIN READ

Are you still looking for a gift for your favorite book lover? Have no fear, BookClub's favorites are here. We gathered some of the best fiction, non-fiction, and children's books we've read this year and are excited to pass on to the book lovers in our lives.

Fiction Favorites

Astonish Me    by Maggie Shipstead

Recommended by one of the members of our production team, Maggie Shipstead's Astonish Me is the beautiful story of ballet dancer Joan and how one relationship shaped her entire life. Shipstead, whose book Great Circle was short-listed for The Booker Prize in 2021, is also a BookClub author.

If We Were Villains    by M.L. Rio

A book we read as a team this year, M.L. Rio's If We Were Villains is a thriller many on the team completed in just one sitting. This story about a group of Shakespeare acting students who experience their own incredible tragedy is the perfect fit for mystery lovers everywhere.

Winter Counts    by David Heska Wanbli Weiden

Another thriller beloved by our team, David Heska Wanbli Weiden's debut novel is set on the Rosebud Indian Reservation in South Dakota and was one of NPR's Best Books of 2020. Winter Counts is a powerful story and we're honored to have David Heska Wanbli Weiden as a BookClub author.

The Prophets    by Robert Jones Jr.

Wrapped and sitting under trees from several of our Christmas celebrating team members, The Prophets is a beautiful story about two young men in love set on a southern plantation. Author Robert Jones Jr. hosts a social justice community at Son of Baldwin on many social media platforms, and won Debut Author of the Year at the All Ways Black Awards this year.

Non-Fiction Favorites

How the Word Is Passed    by Clint Smith

Clint Smith's debut non-fiction book was the number one book recommended by our team this year, and it's no surprise. Not only is this #1 New York Times Bestseller a timely and important piece of work, Smith's prose is deeply felt and impossible to pull yourself away from. How the Word Is Passed is also one of the books selected for Nicole Ellis' Critical Conversations BookClub, and we're proud to have Clint Smith as a BookClub author.

The Birth of Loud    by Ian S. Port

If you know a book lover who is also missing the joy of live music, The Birth of Loud is the perfect book for their holiday. Port's book takes a look at the history of Les Paul and Leo Fender, and how their rivalry impacted the industry they both loved so much.

Twelve and a Half    by Gary Vaynerchuk

We're a big fan of Gary Vee here at BookClub, and we definitely love that Twelve and a Half is all about how emotions play a role in successful business. Vee's newest book isn't just about the emotions he's good at - he even dives into the emotion he struggles with the most (the Half in Twelve and a Half). As part of our Entrepreneurship Book Club, hosted by Barbara Corcoran, Gary Vee and Barbara take an important deep dive into why emotions are important in the business world, and we think you'll enjoy their match-up.

Taste    by Stanley Tucci

Who doesn't love a home-cooked meal? We sure do, and Stanley Tucci does too. Tucci's memoir matches recipes with personal anecdotes, including behind-the-scenes looks at foodie movies Julie & Julia and Big Night, and is a beautiful gift for food lovers and Tucci lovers alike.

Between the Lines    by Uli Beutter Cohen

Recommended by a member of our author team, Between the Lines is for all the readers who love New York, good books, and how we tell stories. Uli Beutter Cohen's debut is a collection of stories from the subway lines of New York City and the readers who ride them - plus, Uli is a BookClub author, and you can dive deeper into her book through BookClub Premium.

Children's Book Favorites

There's a Ghost In This House    by Oliver Jeffers

This captivating and unique picture book tells the story of a girl who lives in a haunted house but has never seen a ghost, and the interactive and transparent pages tell a children's story in a brand new way. Oliver Jeffers' newest book is a comedic look at The Haunting of Hill House for children - and who ever thought you'd hear that?

If the S in Moose Comes Loose    by Peter Hermann

Perfect for kids who love a good rhyme (and books that can be read in a fun and engaging rhythm), If the S in Moose Comes Loose is delightful and funny and a great book to add to a kiddos book collection (or even your own if you loved Younger - yeah, the author is that Peter Hermann).

No matter what you're gifting the book lovers in your life (including yourself!) this year, we hope you get to spend plenty of time reading this holiday season. That's certainly what we'll be doing!
